Reflections on two defeats and some positive vibes from Rich's coaching courses
Not such a good week as defeats to Cardiff and Coventry mean we head into the international break wondering what could have been.
The game against Coventry was quite simply ‘one of those nights’. We did everything but score, and their keeper has had one of those inspired nights after conceding the two first-half goals.
That said we acknowledge we didn’t defend well enough and the same can be said against Cardiff. It’s all good and well creating chances but if you are conceding poor goals then it’s all irrelevant.
The game against Cardiff was one to forget; a blustery day and sticky pitch didn’t help matters but despite not really outplaying us, Cardiff showed why they’ll be somewhere near the top this season. They played effective Championship football, not always the prettiest but certainly effective.
There was plenty to take from both games and lessons that need to be learned quickly if we are to progress this season.
The week itself was a busy one with the two games and now with international break upon us we have no games for a fortnight. This of course means no let up in the training though.
In fact I’ll be involved in a reserve fixture against Oxford on Tuesday at the training ground so will be sure to let you know how that goes.
I’ve also been progressing with my keeper schools. We had the fourth of the six-week course this week which again went very well.
I’ve been delighted with the standard of keepers and, not only that, but some really nice lads too.
For those who read this it has been a pleasure getting to know you all thus far and I’m looking forward to more of the same in the final couple of weeks.
Thanks for reading.
