A mixed week on the pitch after a win against Coventry was followed by a disappointing defeat to Barnsley but then a much more spirited performance against West Brom and a 1-1 draw.
With there being a midweek fixture it meant that training was very light this week. We were in every day but we did ‘warm-down’ sessions after the games. A warm-down session will basically involve some light physical work followed by a lot of stretching. Training also included a swimming session used to help loosen up the muscles after our endeavours.
With there being a few golf fans amongst us, the US Masters at Augusta was a main talking point of the week and Tom Smith found himself out of pocket after showing slightly too much faith in Tiger Woods – our physio Andrew Rolls being the beneficiary.
I’ve currently got a friend of mine over at my house trying to help me turn my garage into something of a games room. It’ll by no means compare to anything that you might see on ‘Cribs’ but I like the idea of having a pool table or maybe a table-tennis table that I can use when friends are here. With Lloyd Doyley living next door, I’m sure he could be persuaded to come and challenge me!
I also went back to see my parents on the Sunday after the West Brom game, I try to get home as much as possible but probably don’t go back enough. It can be tough when there are so many games and you are trying to put your feet up as much as possible.
Sometimes I’ll find that many weeks will go by without actually having left the house much but it’s all worthwhile when you get the rewards on the pitch. I guess that’s a side of a footballer’s life that people don’t get to see much – it’s very rare that you’ll get chance for a night out. I love to go out for dinner but going to clubs is very rare. Even when I do have chance I’m often mentally too tired to go out anyway!
Another big week to come, finishing with the visit of Crystal Palace. I’ll write again after that, until then…
