A Return For Me But No Return at Forest

Unfortunately not the desired result after a good week's training - the loss to Forest was a blow in a game where there was little to separate the two teams. A draw probably a fairer result in my eyes. Once again I’m sure we’ll pick ourselves up and bounce back on Tuesday night against Darl ...

Watford Wins, Olympics And Rehab

A pleasing week for all involved with WFC; a fine performance from our younger pro’s midweek and a thoroughly deserved victory over Charlton yesterday.

I think it’s fair to say too that the new style of football we displayed was widely appreciated by all those who ...

A Good Start

As hoped, when the pressure was on the lads produced a good performance and came away with a creditable point at Crystal Palace - a point which could quite easily have been three on another day. I think most are in agreement that Crystal Palace will be contenders this season so I think it sets a good benchmark ...

A few words from Vince

I recently read a book on Vince Lombardi. He's a former American Football coach who was famous for inspiring quotes.

Here's a few of my favourites of his:

“If you settle for nothing less than your best, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish in life”

“If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done”

“Mental toughness is many things and rather difficult to explain. Its qualities are sacrifice and self-denial. Also, most importantly, it is combined with a perfectly disciplined will, that refuses to give in. It’s a state of mind – you could call it character in action”

“The successful man is himself. To be successful, you’ve got to be honest with yourself”

“The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender”

“If you cheat on the practice field, you’ll cheat in the game. If you cheat in the game, you’ll cheat in life”

“The man who is trained to his peak capacity will gain confidence, confidence is contagious and so is lack of confidence”

“While statistics are interesting, they are all in the past”

“I believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfilment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle – victorious”

Vince also said " Winning isn't everything; it's the only thing". Not sure if that means cheating to win or not.

Richard some very positive and realistic comments by this coach ,very similar to Aidy's ,but after last night's champion's league fnal how would this coach or Aidy react to a defeat on pens ! Also congratulations as i am sure you enjoyed Man Utd's victory Regards Tony
